Use a 4-6 Digit PIN Code Instead of Face/Touch ID

While biometric authentication methods like Apple Face ID or any Touch ID are convenient, they are not necessarily the most secure option for protecting your crypto assets. Instead, using a 4-6 digit PIN code in combination with two-factor authentication is a more secure way to access your wallet as well as transfer or swap assets. PIN codes provide an additional layer of manual security, ensuring that even if someone has access to your device, they cannot access your wallet without this code.

Why PIN Codes Are More Secure Than Face ID:

  • Manual Verification: PIN codes require physical input, making it more difficult for unauthorised individuals to access your wallet compared to biometric methods like Face ID.

  • Higher Control: While Face ID can sometimes be bypassed (e.g., with photos or under certain conditions of being physically assaulted), a well-chosen PIN code is much harder to crack without direct user input.

By opting for a PIN code, you reduce the risk of someone using your phone or hacking biometric features to access your wallet. Always choose a unique and hard-to-guess PIN code, and avoid simple combinations like "1111" or "123456".

How to Set Up a 4-6 Digit PIN Code:

  1. Open the Trustee Plus App and navigate to ”Security” General settings under your Profile picture.

  2. Select PIN code and choose the option to enable your 4-6 digits PIN.

  3. Choose a 4-6 digit code that is hard to guess, combining non-sequential numbers. Using the maximum number of digits for the PIN code is recommended.

You have the option of using either Face or Touch ID functions to enter in your Wallet App. However, we advise that you use a PIN code instead of either of these functions for enhanced security.

Please note that for security reasons, it's not possible to remove the PIN code once it has been activated in the Trustee Plus App.

Furthermore, you have the option to disable Face or Touch ID verifications in the App Configurations settings of your device's operating system.

We have previously advised that access to the Google Authenticator app should be set up with a PIN code, rather than using Face or Touch ID functions, which can be forcibly unauthorised when a person is physically assaulted. It is always preferable to manually enter your App’s PIN code in order to ensure the security of your sensitive digital data.
